My labour was only 4 hours and the contractions where strong but I felt completely in control and capable of letting my body do it s job. I used my anaesthetic technique, took deep breaths and let it happen. My beautiful Zoe arrived to say hello and one hour later I was up having a shower and feeling amazing, as opposed to my first birth were I felt amazing but was in great pain. I never felt any backache throughout the labour and couldn t believe that the labour was so short as opposed to the 27hours of my first birth. Anyway thanks a million and take care. I will give you a call when we are ready for number 3.Lost of love, Mary

Aine Rushe, Cian first time mum
Hi Vivienne I hope you are keeping well. Well I am delighted to say that I am home safe and sound and so is baby Cian. I would also like to say thank you so much for all you help over the last couple of months. As you know I was a totally ball of nerves coming up to Cian s birth and was anxious about absolutely everything. Anyways I must tell you how the hypnosis helped me over the last week. We ended up having to have a scheduled section. The reason for this was because at my last scan the day after Cian s due date my ob thought that he looked very big and as you know I am a short ass, so after a long discussion we all agreed that a scheduled c section would be the best option for the birth of our little man. So on Friday 18th July we headed to the hospital. I woke up early on Friday morning and started listening to my cd s which I might add were nearly worn out by this stage with all my practicing. Anyways it was so weird cos on the journey to the hospital I actually just felt I was going shopping to Dundrum or something. I kept saying to Rob that it was all really weird that I was not worried at all. When we got to the hospital I was totally chilled out and was really excited. At 3 o clock was went in for the procedure and at 3.31 Cian was born. When he was born Rob went with him to the nursery and got him checked out etc while I went to the recovery area. Rob said that he was so chilled out. All the other babies were crying crazy and he was just looking around saying what is going on man!!! Rob even has some video evidence of this which is really lovely. Anyways they pumped me up with lots of pain killers and also my blood pressure shot through the roof so this also delayed me getting back to see Cian and Rob. All the time I just kept thinking get into your lift Aine and it worked cos eventually I got back to my two boys. Later that night they gave me more pain killers and I started to feel weird so I told them that I thought I was a having an allergic reaction. I don t think they listened to me as they gave me more of the same drug later in the morning and I felt weird again. Anyways this time they believed me and a doctor came and told me I was having an allergic reaction to some morphine which they had given me for the pain. At that point I told them that I did not need anymore pain killers and that I would deal with the pain myself. After this I immediately put my ipod on and starting on my relaxation again. Later on that morning I was moved to another and was able to walk to my room which was located at the other side of the building on another floor. Also a couple of nurses asked me if I had a c section and when I said yeah they were so surprised that was able to do everything I was doing. Anyways over the next few days after this I just continued with the relaxation and stayed in the centre position pretty much all of the time. I got home on Wednesday and have been going around the house doing things that I was not even able to do when I was very pregnant. Now don t get me wrong I am sore but nothing like I ever imagined I would be. I have even gotten out for some strolls with Cian in the pram. Everyone who has met Cian comments on how calm he is and also some of my friends are totally amazed at how calm I have become. My little hypno baby is brill and I cant wait to have another. Thanks again AINE, ROB AND BABY CIAN

Georgina Twohig, Eabha 6lbs 1oz first time mum
hen I feel pregnant with my first baby, I was obviously overjoyed with the news but as the months progressed I became increasingly nervous and apprehensive about the birth. Having heard so may horror stories from friends and family over the years at about 6months pregnant the word birth would reduce me to tears, I was petrified of what would happen. I came across The Kerrigan clinic per chance and on attending my first appointment with Vivienne we went through all my worries, fears and expectations. The sessions where very relaxing and the CD s allowed me the time to switch off and relax during the pregnancy. As the time progressed I was definitely more comfortable and looking forward to the birth. During the last month of pregnancy I used the self-hypnosis techniques to reduce headaches and back pain which was great. When the time came 2 weeks before my due date, I stayed at home and managed the contractions whilst listening to the CD. To my amazement on my arrival at the hospital(my waters had broken so I had to go in) I was 7cm dilated. Although I opted for the epidural , I was calm and relaxed about making the decision. Two hours later my baby girl was delivered. I was only in labour for a total of 6hours from start to finish. I can honestly say it was a very positive experience and friends and family couldn t believe how quickly I recovered after the birth. My baby is a very happy and content child and I still use the techniques for relaxation and to get me to sleep. This program is fantastic, it was definitely the reason why the later pregnancy and the birth were perfectly manageable and I would definitely recommend it to any mum-to-be who has concerns and fears around childbirth.

Annmaire Ward,Lucy first time mum
The childbirth program was great, I listened to the Cd s everyday which took the fear out of childbirth for me. I learnt from the Cd that having a baby is a natural thing that my body is designed to do and that it wasn t as painful as people were saying. My labour was short and it flew in, my contractions started at 11.30 and I had Lucy at 3.27, just 4 hours. The technique for the anaesthetic made me feel in complete control and I was totally relaxed. I would defo use the childbirth program again. Many thanks, Annmaire.

Patrice Cooney mum of 3
Found the childbirth program extremely helpful compared to my previous childbirthing experiences. I didn t need any analgesia and that doesn t suggest I wasn t aware of the situation having had an epidural before and pethidine on previous deliveries, was delighted with myself. My husband used the calming technique on me and he was also very calm throughout the birth. After my sessions with Vivienne, I felt totally relaxed about the whole thing. I went into the hospital after feeling just some mild period like cramps for a few hours which suddenly resulted in contractions at only a few minutes apart. My CD really helped me through my contractions during the car journey. They told me in the hospital I was a whopping 6 cm dilated already. I definitely attribute this great head start to listening to the hypnosis CDs every single day. The doctor mentioned in passing that I probably wouldn t need an epidural as I was so far gone. I had never intended to have the epidural anyway. I gave birth to my gorgeous healthy baby boy, who weighed 7 lb 15oz, with just gas and air. I was very proud of this achievement and it was great to be up and about straight away afterwards. Baby Leo is thriving. He's really gorgeous, tall like his Daddy and very bright. I'm still breastfeeding and loving it. Thanks again for all your help and hopefully our paths may cross again in the future. I ll be back for a "booster" in another few years on my next baby! Anita.

Rena Nuvoloni, Alva Maria first time mum
My birth story is a bit of a tale of two halves. I woke up at 10 to 2 in the morning, and got to the hospital at about 5 - at that stage, they told me I was only 1cm dilated, and asked if I wanted to stay. I decided to stay (mindful of your stories of how quick the hypnobirthing labours are!). When they examined me again 3 hours later, I was 7cm dilated! They were absolutely amazed at this in a first time mother, and I totally credit it to the hypnobirthing classes and practice, which proved fantastic to this point. Unfortunately, things then slowed down and nothing much happened for a couple of hours - during which they decided to break the membranes manually. After another while, they decided to put me on oxytocin drip - at this stage, I must admit my courage was failing a bit and I opted for an epidural, as they seemed to think that I might end up having to have a C-section. The baby got quite tired and the heartbeat was slowing, so they tried ventouse (vacuum) - but that didn't work. They then opted for forceps, which involved an epidural. Fortunately, the baby came out fine - while needing to be suctioned, her Apgar scores were excellent - 9 at 1 minute and 10 at 5 minutes. Again, I think the hypnotherapy had something to do with this, as I wasn't getting too distressed - I think she didn't either. The only explanation they could give for the fact that labour slowed down so much and the baby seemed to get stuck for a while was that the umbilical cord was a very long one, and that she may have got tangled up in it or it was obstructing her getting out for a while. So, all in all, a tale of two halves, but with a very happy ending. I have a beautiful baby daughter, who weighed in at 8lbs. She is a very content baby and very easy to manage - which I also put down to the fact that I was in such a good mental place from all the hypnotherapy classes and practice which must have transmitted on to her. I guess things might have gone better if I had not been so sick before the birth - I was literally in bed with a hacking cough for 10 days before the birth, which resulted in me being quite weak when it came to the delivery day. Anyway, I wanted to say thank you very much for everything you have done. I will definitely be trying the hypnotherapy approach for my next baby and will probably call you then to arrange refresher classes! Next time I will prepare myself more for the final stage as it got a bit medicalised, I felt forced out of the calm hypno stage due to the baby being very high up and I was pushing ineffectively. This is the part where I felt a bit afraid and I felt pain but I still only used some gas&air and I did it. The hypno played a huge part of my pregnancy it really prepared me and helped me await the birth in an excited frame of mind rather than a fearful one and I miss listening to my daily hypno CD s and my lovely hypno naps! Thanks for all your help and support Vivienne, heres to the next one ! Lots of love Karen.

Emma Corrigan, Rosa 7lb 8oz first time mum
I had planned a home birth and I was feeling both relaxed and excited in the run up to the birth. The hypnosis CD s helped me to some valuable sleep. Each stage of my labour was pretty long with pre-labour and labour contractions lasting 8hours each and the pushing stage lasting 1hour. I should have been exhausted BUT I sleep between each contraction even when the break was only 30secs, I actually slept so I felt energised the whole time. For me that was the greatest benefit from the hypnotic childbirth program and also the focus it gave me. I never felt like giving up and although the midwives thoughts at one stage that Rosa was not going to make her entrance without a little help, I listened to my body, I used the gas&air to help me focus, I put on the hypnosis CD and took a few moments to regroup and felt then as if I got inside my body and I knew then that the time had come and shortly after Rosa was with us. I would love to say that I was totally anaesthesied from the breast to the knee, unfortunately not totally but the hypnosis gave me all the tools I need to proceed on a calm relaxed manner and the energy I needed to give birth. I would definitely do it again and I would recommend it. Hypno babies are reported to be calmer babies, Rosa did cry non stop for 10 weeks but she did have reflux and I used the hypnosis for this period and felt relaxed with Rosa and as soon s the reflux was sorted out she was the most placid baby. She has not cried since and she is calm and relaxed, nothing phases her!

Janette Penney, Saoirse 8lb 12ozs mum of 2
Induced but no movement/feeling of contractions for 6/7hours. She was born healthy and howling, weighing 3.6 kg (nearly 8 lbs) and measuring 52 cm. All went well with the birth, but I have to say it was pretty fast (entered hospital at 15.35 and Francesca was born by 18.04). No epidural, no gas/air, no pethidine, no TENS machine, no nothing a completely spontaneous birth but unfortunately towards the end they gave me a drip of oxytocin to speed things us (for the life of me I don t know why, I thought it was going fast enough). By that stage I couldn t even go down to level A nor mind level Z as there was NO time between contractions and I was barely conscious anymore of what was happening. I did have some stitches afterwards (they wouldn t tell me how many ;-)) In fact, that was the sorest part! But you ll be pleased to hear that Mom and I managed the first part of labour (although at the time I didn t realise it was really labour) at home. The first contractions came at about 07.00 am and between your relaxation techniques and Mom massaging my back we managed quite well, but it was funny I knew exactly when I had to go into hospital and when I did the words on CD1 were ringing in my head ( by the time it comes to go to hospital you will feel totally relaxed and in control& ) Thanks so much for everything, you cannot imagine how nice it is to have a positive birthing experience and all I can say is that despite extreme sleep deprivation and our lives being turned upside down forever we are very happy! If there is anything else you want or need to know (I m not sure how much detail you d like!) please let me know. But in the meantime, take care, have a lovely Easter weekend and no doubt we ll be in touch again in the near future (perhaps the next time I m in Ireland I can bring Francesca in to meet you). I just wanted to thank you for all your help with the hypnobirthing.I really found it to be a great help to me.I was induced on the 6th May.They only let me go 6 days over because baby was so big.I hoped and prayed I would go myself but I didn't.The thing with been induced is all of your labour is in the hospital and it is very clinical. However this is where my hypnosis really helped me to remain relaxed and calm.I practised my hypnosis the night before and had a great nights sleep and felt very calm the next morning. When I arrived into the hospital they broke my waters and hoped my contractions would start.Unfortunately they didn't so I had to get the oxytocin drip.I got as far as 5cm myself but with the oxytocin drip the contractions are so intense.I really feel that I got as far as I did myself thanks to the Hypnotic Childbirth Program.I decided at 5cm to get the epidural.I knew he was a big baby and the contractions were getting too much.I went to 10cm very quickly after that. I would recommend you and your Hypnotic Childbirth Program to anyone that would ask me, considering I was going for an elective ceasearan before I went to see you I m extremely proud of my accompishment. It really allowed me to enjoyed the last few weeks of my pregnancy without dreading the birth and also enabled me to remain very calm, relaxed and positive throughout the birth. I found work difficult and very tiring and I found it difficult to sleep from month 6. When I got the first CD it clicked and I found it very easy to listen to. I started to relax and enjoy my pregnancy more. I loved the second CD and I got more and more confident in my body. I had a very healthy pregnancy and I feel the relaxation techniques had a lot to dowith that! I had a slight show close to my due date and I went in to be checked out. While in the waiting room I could hear a women screaming in the troes of labour so I went into my hypnosis Off position to switch off from it, when a nurse eventually came to take my blood pressure she said I was the calmest women she d ever seen! When my waters broke the following day I went into the off position again and anaesthesised myself for the car journey I was completely relaxed and calm arriving at the hospital, I then moved into the middle position so I could talk to the midwifes and I managed the contractions and stayed calm when all hell broke loose around me once they realised that an emergency c-section was needed. I was absolutely calm during the surgery itself and I know it would have been a very different story had I not completed this hypnothic childbirth program. I used it again after the birth especially during the removal of the staples, I m squeamish but I didn t feel a thing because of the hypnotic anaesthetic. I still use it now as I feel 15 minutes in the off position equals about 2 hours sleep and as my darling baby isn t quite sleeping the whole night through yet at 17 weeks believe me I need it!!! I also found the CD s a huge help in a number of ways. I used them to distress when I got home from work. They put me in a very positive frame of mind before the birth(and given that I thoughts I would be a nervous wreck that was something!!). They helped me feel in control, calm and confident. I still use it now when I m tired as I have said and if I feel stressed out. I can t recommend this hypnotic childbirth program highly enough and if I m lucky enough to get pregnant again, Vivienne will be the first appointment I make to ensure a healthy successful pregnancy and birth!! I also plan to use this method during the IVF itself which is the most stressful experience that I ve ever had. I hope next time I can use this program to be in an even more positive frame of mind. Many thanks Vivienne.

Rachel O Brien, Emily 7lb 8oz first time mum
One week before Emily s due date I was having a rest after working all day. Eddie came home from work and we both lay down discussing how we d be parents soon. At 7.30pm just after I told him I was completely ready for it to happen, I had a show followed by a contraction. I send eddie down stairs(without telling him it had started), checked it was a show and then took a minute to relax. Went to tell Eddie I was started , he ran me a bath and I relaxed for an hour with the CD s on while he made pasta and checked bags were packed. Contractions were every 7mins. After bath we timed contractions they had gone to every 3mins. I was relaxed still listening to the CD s. Contractions were fine very easy to cope with, ate pasta and watched TV til 11pm, phoned hospital and they said to come in. Arrived at 12pm(still extremely relaxed) was checked and told 0cm dilated and not in labour. I opted to ho home at 1am. In car on way home and went from 0 to 10cm(40minute journey) got the urge to puch within minutes of getting home, stopped hypno CD at this point as I had to concentrate on not pushing. Went back to hospital arrived at 3.25am taken straight to delivery room, where midwife said her head was crowning. I wasn t allowed to push straight away as had to get strep B treatment. Eventually allowed to push and she was born after 40mins. She fed straight away and I was phoning relatives 20mins afterwards. I delivered the placenta myself. Episiotomy and stitches were fine, didn t feel them at all using the hypnotic anaesthetic.(she was coming real fast that s the only reason I had to have one). Had no pain relief during labour or in hospital, didn t need it, felt great and was able to go home a day early. Emily was very healthy and placid and had an Apgar score of 9/10. Midwifes where great and really behing Viviennes childbirth program. My sister had a 24hr labour so short labours aren t in our family. That said it was very well worth the painless labour I had, ok not entirely painless but very manageable, it felt like a strong pressure sensation. I was 40 and had gone through all my friends birth stories in all their gory detail as they had all had gone through childbirth before me. I wondered how I would ever survive, apart from that I had an irriational fear of hospitals, blood, blood tests etc. It was at my ante-natal class that I first heard of The Kerrigan Clinic and hypnotherapy. At first I was sceptical , I thought it was a bit new age for me but as d day approached I decided contact Vivienne. She immediately put me at ease and I was so relaxed after every session I thought this can t be bad. Besides I was hoping that it did what it said it would do on the can !! After my first session my whole attitude to childbirth began to change and I tried to put the horror stories I had heard behind me. I became more positive in my attitude and really began to believe in myself. I was taken by the whole natural process that was childbirth. My baby was due in Decemeber 15th and at 3.15am my waters broke. I had no pain before this but contractions started immediately and were very close. I contacted the hospital and went in, getting there at 4.45am I was 2cm dilated. 1hour and 30mins later I was 8cm. I had listened to the CD on the way into the hospital and brought it with me to the delivery suite. The CD player was broken but I kept thinking of Vivienne s voice and got into the centre position at 9am I started to push and my beautiful daughter was born at 9.26am. Total time from waters breaking was 6hours, it was great. I had no gas&air and no pain relief of any sort and had no tearing and no stitches. It was a really positive experience and a true mind over matter experience. Of course it was not all perfect! The afterbirth did not deliver and I ended up in theatre to have it removed but because of the hypnotherapy I wasn t stressed about it at all and went off to theatre quite content. I would definitely recommend the techniques I learned at The Kerrigan clinic and I hope that everyone has as positive an outcome as mine. No matter what happens at the birth the mum heals in time and holding the baby us the most important and happiest outcome. Thank you Vivienne.

Aideen - Hypno Mum "Having found out I was pregnant for the first time, naturally I was a little anxious about the pregnancy but more so about the labor and birth. I knew from early on that I wanted the birth to be as natural and drug free as possible both for my sake and that of my baby. Obviously I wanted it to be pain free too! After reading about hypnobirthing in many pregnancy magazines I realized that this could be just what I was looking for. I did my research on the Internet and found the Kerrigan clinic. I spoke with Vivienne Kerrigan and made an appointment to start the program. Each session was one long moment of pure relaxation. My whole body would relax, any niggling aches and pains would disappear as I practiced and improved the self-hypnosis techniques that Vivienne taught me. The sessions made me confident and fearless about the impending birth. When the time arrived I was able to stay at home much longer that I had anticipated, I felt completely in control and arrived at the hospital 3 to 4cm dilated I genuinely had no fear and felt really excited about meeting our baby. I had the most amazing speedy birth and Richard (having attended the last session with me was able to support me and keep me focused in all the ways Vivienne suggested). I was able to control the contractions and practically welcome each one as it brought us closer to the birth. Dan was born in such a calm relaxed environment six hours after I arrived at the hospital. Because I had no drugs of any kind Dan was extremely alert when he made his arrival. Everybody still comments on how alert and contented he is. He is such a happy and smiley baby to this day. I was up and about less that half an hour after the birth phoning friends and family. Listening to my tape each evening, that was part of the program, made me feel calm and relaxed and I became confident and positive about child birth as the weeks went on. I had complete three out of the four sessions of the program when my little girl arrived into the world 19 days early!! She was a really quite baby and slept the night from when she was 10 weeks old. On my second pregnancy, I started the program at 6 months. Again I loved being so relaxed and after each session with Vivienne I was looking forward to the wonderful experience that was ahead of me. So I was well prepared when my little boy arrived 22 days early! The whole child birth was so fast and I felt brilliant after it. I mentioned to midwifes in the hospital that I had completed the program and told them all about the process and they, along with the doctors I spoke with afterwards were convinced that hypnosis was the reason for my daughter and son arriving early into the world" "Sitting here 2 weeks after my child was born I can honestly say that her birth was a truly beautiful, rewarding, emotionally calm experience and it's all thanks to Vivienne and Hypnotherapy. The use of hypnotherapy also had an effect on my husband and first child because it made me feel very calm and therefore better equipped to deal with tiredness and all other effects of pregnancy. My Husband also became calm by default so once I got my first contraction he became an enormous help to me by using what Vivienne had taught us. So now I have a beautiful daughter who is very placid, who eats and sleeps well and appears to be very relaxed within herself and I think hypnotherapy has had a huge part to play in this. I would recommend this to all pregnant women"

Dee Cleary - Hypno Mum When I was in the early months of pregnancy on our first baby, I confided in an Irish friend of mine, who had recently become a mum, how nervous I was about the birth and the early months of caring for a new baby. She recommended I contact Vivienne, which I did. I explained my fears to Vivienne and arranged a consultation as I was visiting Ireland the following week. I followed her program from early in my pregnancy. I immediately felt an inner calmness and a new confidence in my abilities. Although due to complications, I had to have an emergency section, it was still a very calm labour (though long) and I can quite honestly say I had a very positive experience. In fact my husband later said he was very grateful for my support throughout a very anxious period! (This from someone (me)who feared hospitals!) Our baby is now five months old. Our midwife and health visitors have all commented on what a contented baby he is. He is an excellent feeder, he now sleeps from 7:00pm till 6:00am every night and is a joy to be with. How much of the above is due to Vivienne, I'm not sure, but I am sure, as a result of contacting her I felt very relaxed and thoroughly enjoyed my pregnancy and birth of our little boy

: Back to Top :
